In the midst of getting ready for classes to start on Monday we had a visit from the Belgian ambassador! He is a very low key person. They aren’t at this time giving money but Belgium does support many countries with teacher training and health care training. There was little fanfare because he said the Belgian government can’t afford to hire body guards for all their ambassadors. He said they just exercise caution. Some of the pictures show the students talking to him to tell him where they come from and why they chose to come here.
Sister Margaret tested the new ones coming in and found many with very low English skills so we are going to have a small foundation class. We are going to teach English---reading, comprehension, writing, speaking, listening through the subject areas. We will use the primary books so they will be introduced to the vocabulary of social studies, science etc. I tried it a little during in-service so I think it will work and be helpful to these students.
