We just sent our latest group home. Last week was "Nuns Build" when sisters from all over come to NOLA to work on the rebuild project. We had only 7 charities this year - some from Nazareth, one from Halifax via Boston and one from New York. We had a fun week nevertheless, with lots of good prayer and good laughter. Since the four of us who live here are the only Sisters of Charity in the city, it's nice to bolster our numbers sometimes.
I am volunteering on a small committee that is working on getting a basketball league for young men, 18 to 25, with the target being African American young men. I am rather enjoying the experience. After working for 13 yrs. in the courts in Wyandotte County with homicide victims' families and experiencing the huge number of homicides that happen in NOLA, I want to help keep these young men alive and capable of being peace makers in the community.
I am still thoroughly enjoying the various music festivals that happen almost weekly and are usually free or for a good will offering. I am even enjoying jazz which I haven't been very fond of in the past. This music is just so good - it's truly one of the blessings of being here.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. You all are another of the blessings in my life for which I give thanks each day. May you be richly blessed each day. Happy Advent.
